MLS Playoffs and Awards

Hello, everybody, and welcome to the latest article of Super Soccer Ian. We're nearing the end of the playoffs, and the only game left is the biggest one of the year: The MLS Cup final matchup between the NE Revolution and LA Galaxy. This could be huge if either team wins it. If the LA Galaxy win it, then they'll break the record of Cups won with five MLS Cups won since 1996. If the NE Revolution win, then this MLS Cup will be their first ever. The game will take place on Sunday, December 7, at 12:00 PM Pacific Time.

Robbie Keane was voted as the 2014 MLS MVP. At first, I thought that Martins probably deserved it more. Martins finished his season off with 17 goals and 13 assists in 31 games, which is a very good

record. Once I took a look at Keane's stats, though, I changed my mind. He had 19 goals and 14 assists in 29 games. I thought that the MVP Award rightfully went to Keane, yet I thought that Martins was probably the runner-up. I personally thought that Landon Donovan should've also been in the MVP race, since he finished the season with 10 goals and 19 assists in 31 games.

I think that Keane may have one the award simply because the LA Galaxy advanced, while the Sounders didn't. I was at the final game at CenturyLink Field. The Sounders won 2-1, yet Juninho got an away goal that made them advance. It was a very frustrating game from a Sounders standpoint. The Sounders did successfully win the Supporter's Shield, along with another US Open Cup. Chad Marshall also won the Defender of the Year award. In my opinion, this may've been the best season ever that the Sounders have had in MLS.

Those are my thoughts about the playoffs and the MLS Cup playoffs so far! December 7 will be a big day for all MLS fans, and I'm looking forward to this game mainly because some record will be broken. Either the LA Galaxy win the most MLS Cups in history, or the NE Revolution win their first MLS Cup ever. There will inevitably be a winner!

Question of the Week:

Who do YOU think will be the 2014 MLS Cup Champions?

A-NE Revolution

B-LA Galaxy
